  23. Unfortunately, channel 9 is on a frequency that is often not useful for
  24. local communications (which you assumedly want if you're looking for 
  25. police/fire/emergency commo.)  You really need something in the VHF/UHF
  26. frequency range.  Talking to west Texas from Massachusetts can be fun in
  27. some instances, but not if you're trying to get an ambulance.

  40. The most current orbital elements from the NASA Prediction Bulletins are
  41. carried on the Celestial RCP/M, (513) 427-0674, and are updated several times
  42. weekly.  Documentation and software are also available on this system.  As a
  43. service to the amateur satellite community, the most current of these elements
  44. are uploaded weekly to sci.space.  This week's elements are provided below.
  45. The Celestial RCP/M may be accessed 24 hours/day at 300, 1200, or 2400 baud
  46. using 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity.

  427. My understanding was that rec.radio.shortwave would be a place
  428. for anyone interested in the monitoring hobbies to come for
  429. discussion.  There have already been several articles on jammers,
  430. scanning, and broadcast band dxing there.

  432. As a matter of fact when this was first discussed in news.groups
  433. thename considered was rec.radio.monitoring.  Because a number
  434. of people felt that r.r.sw would be more descriptive for the
  435. average usenetter, the name approved, (by vote), was r.r.sw.
  436. However the charter allows the discussion of any monitoring topic.

  439. these topics.
